2021 Deliberation Meeting on Marine and Outdoor Education Promotion in Cities, Counties, and Special Municipalities
On February 3, the Taiwan Marine Education Center (TMEC) convened the 2021 Deliberation Meeting on Marine and Outdoor Education Promotion in Cities, Counties, and Special Municipalities at the GIS NTU Convention Center. Personnel from education bureaus in 22 cities and counties across Taiwan responsible for marine and outdoor education attended, as did higher education experts and teaching representatives from marine education centers and social education institutions. The Department of Overall Planning and K-12 Education Administration of the Ministry of Education also sent delegates to attend the meeting. Notably, for the first time, representatives from the Ocean Affairs Council were invited to deliver a presentation. Cases on the integration of guidelines on outdoor and marine education were comprehensively discussed. To facilitate the integration of outdoor and marine education and help local governments build outdoor education centers in both montane and marine environments, the TMEC will collate opinions from each of the attending parties and present them as a reference for the K-12 Education Administration in accordance with Ministry of Education procedures.
To enhance marine awareness and excite public interest in the ocean, the Ministry of Education hosted the second Marine Popular Science Picture Book Creation Competition in 2021. Under the theme of marine protection, picture books were created on the following aspects: guarding the seashore, receiving food and fisheries education, and engaging in plastic reduction movement. Through the creation of these picture books, awareness of the importance of marine protection can be raised. Students can be motivated to participate in learning of marine experience and creation practice, thereby contributing to the goal of enhancing ocean literacy across Taiwan. Furthermore, various competitions related to marine and outdoor education will be held in 2021, such as the Marine Education Contribution Awards, Excellent Efficacy in Outdoor Education Awards, and Marine Protection Lesson Plan Competition.
