The National Marine Education Touring Exhibition has officially launched, bringing its rich array of displays to multiple locations across Taiwan. With a core focus on marine culture and environmental education, the exhibition features marine-themed poetry, science picture books, and stories of key contributors to marine education. Through this initiative, the public is invited to explore the multifaceted nature of the ocean.
Simultaneously, the 3rd Marine Science Picture Book Creation Competition has opened for submissions, inviting students and teachers to collaborate in the creation of engaging and informative picture books that convey ocean knowledge.
To commemorate World Ocean Day (June 8), the Ministry of Education has designated the week of June 8 as “Marine Education Week” since 2015. The Taiwan Marine Education Center (TMEC) has been commissioned to implement related initiatives. Among them, the picture book competition serves as a highlight event. This year’s theme, “Sustainable Oceans,” encourages participants to integrate science, art, and literature to showcase ocean literacy and its connection to everyday life. The competition aims to spark creativity across all educational levels, promote marine knowledge in an accessible format, and inspire greater ocean awareness, literacy, and conservation action. Selected works will be featured in the touring exhibition, with outstanding entries eligible for digital publishing and wider dissemination.
This year’s exhibition is organized around three key themes: “Marine Poetry and Picture Book Zone” — Showcasing exceptional poetry and picture book creations from the Ministry’s Marine Education Week initiative, highlighting topics such as marine ecology, environmental change, and conservation through vivid illustrations and narratives. “Spotlight on Marine Education Advocates” — Featuring the stories of educators, experts, and organizations who have played vital roles in advancing marine education. “Marine Science Education Zone” — Displaying TMEC’s interactive teaching tools that help the public understand ocean-related concepts in an engaging and accessible way. The touring exhibition will be held at the following locations: Lieyu Township Library, Kinmen County Daren Township Library, Taitung County Cijin Branch, Kaohsiung Public Library Changhua City Library, Changhua County Nanliao Branch, Hsinchu City Library Nangu Shan Branch, Kaohsiung Public Library
