2024 Outdoor Education Annual Conference: Symposium

Commissioned by the K-12 Education Administration of the Ministry of Education, the center hosted the “2024 Outdoor Education Annual Conference: Symposium” on October 5, 2024. The event centered on the theme “A Decade of Outdoor Education: Retrospect and Prospect.” It featured two keynote speeches, a practical forum, and 51 academic presentations, highlighting the achievements of outdoor education over the last decade and exploring its future directions.
The keynote speeches included presentations by Mao-Tsai Huang, Associate Researcher at the National Academy for Educational Research, and Chin-Kuo Wu, Director of the Taiwan Marine Education Center at National Taiwan Ocean University. M ao-Tsai Huang reviewed the growth and changes in outdoor education from 2014 to 2024. Chin-Kuo Wu provided insights on how local governments, outdoor education centers, and marine education base schools have developed diverse curricula. The practical forum focused on strategies for integrating the resources and curricula of outdoor education centers, school teachers, and local partners to foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
The panel discussion, led by Yi-Ching Tsai, Section Chief of the K-12 Education Administration, included representatives from various sessions. It emphasized that outdoor education is not merely learning outside the classroom but also a key means for students to engage with the real world and develop essential competencies. Approximately 200 participants attended the symposium. The goal was to inspire continual advancements in outdoor education through the collective efforts of the government, schools, and partners over the next decade.
