2019 lecturer training and study tours for marine career exploration teaching and development (the northern session)
The 2019 lecturer training and study tours for marine career exploration teaching and development (the northern session) hosted by the Taiwan Marine Education Center, was held in the Wan-Li Junior High School, New Taipei, on March 28. A total of 31teachers from all over Taiwan participated in this event.
In his opening speech, Director Cheng-Chieh Chang of the Taiwan Marine Education Center said: "This year, the Taiwan Ocean Education Center will hold one marine career study workshop session in northern and southern areas, respectively. It is a great honor to hold the northern session in cooperation with the New Taipei Wan-Li Junior High School, which is also the Marine Aquatic Products career Exploration and Experience Education Center. The marine career courses should be extended to the teachers of junior high schools and elementary schools to enabling them to achieve customized course transformation that can be used in teaching based on the center's research and development teaching package materials over the years and their professional knowledge in order to expand the promotion effectiveness of career exploration teaching. President Kuo-Cheng Lo of the New Taipei Wan-Li Junior High School said: “The vocational education law, passed in 2015, clearly states that the vocational education must be rooted in higher grades of elementary schools. There are two main types of clients for the New Taipei Municipal Marine Aquatic Products career Exploration and Experience Education Center: higher grade students of element schools in New Taipei City and teachers of other counties and cities. Assistant Professor Tsai-Hsin Chang of Taipei University of Marine Technology said: “Maritime education needs to be strengthened. Teachers are expected to be tutors for students after returning to their schools. Appreciation goes to the teams of the center for their efforts in understanding of the marine career by people at every stage of education.
This course consists of the following contents: “A case study of integration of marine career into the teaching package of elementary schools” by Chien-Lin Lo, the director of the Keelung Dongguang elementary School, and Ming-Hsia Li, a teacher from the Keelung Dingnei Elementary School. Both of them are members of the Center R&D Teacher Group. Captain Kuang-Ming Fang of the Weltrans shipping agency co. was specially invited to share the industry experience of "sea helmsman"; “introduction of the New Taipei Municipal Marine Aquatic Products career Exploration and Experience Education Center” by director Hung-Lin Li and Yi-Ping Yeh from the New Taipei Wanli Junior High School. Meanwhile, Director Kai-Jung Lai of the Department of Marine Navigation of National Keelung Maritime Vocational School was invited to give a session of "Simple simulation on ship operation and the use of marine chart", and Director Tzu-Yao Lin of the Department of Marine Engineering was invited to give a session of "Diesel engine power generation and load panel wiring implementation". These sessions provide implementation experiences in navigation and engineering department. The participants said: "It is very important to know the marine career and teachers should convey the profound sense of marine mission to students.”
