Commissioned by the Ministry of Education, National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) hosted the 6th Ministry of Education Marine Education Contribution Awards ceremony on November 21, 2025 at the National Science and Technology Museum. The ceremony brought together marine educators from various regions of Taiwan. Deputy Minister of Education Chang Liao Wan-chien personally presented awards to the recipients of 22 awards across four categories. The venue also featured an exhibition area showcasing marine education achievements, presenting the recipients’ journey in promoting marine education and their key accomplishments. The event not only recognized the outstanding contributions of marine education promoters but also aimed to harness societal resources and momentum for marine education through the transmission, innovation, and dissemination of exemplary practices, thereby embedding ocean awareness into everyday life and culture.

This year marks the sixth Marine Education Contribution Awards. Deputy Minister Chang expressed the hope that honoring exemplary practitioners in marine education would encourage broader public participation in concrete actions to safeguard the ocean and further infuse greater hope and momentum into the sustainable development of marine education. Since 2019, the Taiwan Marine Education Center has assisted the Ministry of Education in organizing the awards ceremony. The goal is to continually honor organizations, individuals, local governments, and curriculum and educational teams for their long-term commitments to marine education while encouraging the participation of private sectors in promoting the development of marine education. In his opening remarks, NTOU President Hsu Tai-wen expressed particular appreciation for the sustained dedication of past award recipients and noted that, since 2013, the university has aligned with national marine education policies to promote marine education in a sustained manner by linking domestic and international resources, fostering cross-sector collaboration, and translating marine education principles into concrete actions. He further expressed the hope that more individuals would join these efforts to expand their collective influence.

The list of award recipients for the 6th Ministry of Education Marine Education Contribution Awards has been published in the “Marine Education Contribution Awards” section of the NTOU Taiwan Marine Education Center website (https://tmec.ntou.edu.tw/p/412-1016-13439.php?Lang=zh-tw). The center looks forward to the increased participation of organizations, individuals, local governments, and curriculum and educational teams as marine education promoters. Their efforts will enable the ocean to become a wellspring of hope and fostering a more promising future for Taiwan and the world.
