2025 Level Blue (Advanced) Marine Educator Reengagement Program—Reconnecting Level Blue Educators: Co-Creating Sustainable Marine Education Action

Project Assistant:KUO,CHIA-YU

The 2025 Level Blue (Advanced) Marine Educator Reengagement Program centered on marine conservation and sustainable action and invited Level Blue (Advanced) Marine Educators to reunite. Through field investigations, thematic lectures, and experience sharing, the program promoted continued learning, deepened professional knowledge, and expanded the participants’ collective understanding of marine conservation and its educational applications as they generated momentum for action.

The first day of the program began with an intertidal zone field study in a protected marine area, where the participants engaged in citizen science observation and action, gaining insight into the close link between marine conservation and educational practice. The following thematic session focused on other effective area-based conservation measures, guiding the participants to understand new trends in international conservation and broaden their professional perspectives on marine sustainability. The Level Blue Educators shared their challenges and inspirations in promoting teaching efforts, transforming individual passion into collective momentum, and consolidating energy for sustained action.

The second day of the program focused on marine science and practical applications. The participants were introduced to the Ocean Data Bank, an open-access marine data platform, and explored how scientific research outcomes can be transformed into engaging interdisciplinary educational materials. Subsequently, they visited the New Ocean Researcher 2, where they learned about on-site marine exploration and data collection operations. The afternoon session centered on blue carbon ecosystems, combining theoretical instruction with a hands-on seagrass planting activity that enabled the participants to deepen their understanding of blue carbon resources and marine sustainability through practical experience and embodied the spirit of transforming knowledge into action.

The value of this reengagement program lay in its ability to enhance educators’ professional knowledge and skills and in its potential to reenergize educators to engage in collaboration and exchanges. The participants openly shared their experiences and challenges in promoting marine education. Through the combined power of their emotion and expertise, they rekindled their enthusiasm for marine education. The Marine Education Center hopes that this group of capable and influential educators will continue to advance marine education together and contribute to the next chapter in the sustainable development of marine education in Taiwan.
